Such a Time as This: Finding Purpose in the Chaos

Sometimes motherhood feels overwhelming, to say the least. We look to our Bibles for an encouraging scripture. We get on our knees, praying for strength. But in the right now, immediate moments, God still feels distant and our days still feel fragile.

Today I came across a verse in Esther. I've seen it a million times, but today it was more life giving than ever before.

Esther's people (the Jews) are facing a very scary situation. The king has signed a decree allowing a man named Haman to kill any and all Jews. Esther's cousin sends her a message, asking her to plead with the king and save her people.

Problem is, unless Esther is officially invited to enter the king's court, she could be executed just for showing up. Yikes!

I can imagine Esther is feeling terrified, confused, overwhelmed with the task at hand. She probably got on her knees, begging the Lord for strength. She probably wished her circumstances were different.

In the message, from Esther's cousin, he says something to her that changed her perspective. “Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” (Esther‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭NLT‬)

What if in the midst of raw emotions we were created to flourish? What if it's in those fragile seasons of life that our exact purposes are found?

Whether your fragile season is motherhood or something else, I wonder if it's in the trenches that we find treasure. I wonder if we lived present, not wishing our circumstances were different, we would find our hearts being fulfilled.

This encouraged me today and I hope it does for all of you who feel a little drained, a little bored, a little invisible, and a little overwhelmed.

Maybe, just maybe, we were created for such a time as this.
